Bluegfxexpo – 12 May 2011

Bluegfxexpologo“Bringing Media & Entertainment vendors and customers together in one showcase event.”

Hear from the experts about the latest 3D modelling & animation technologies, how to optimise your render pipeline, the latest Cloud (CPU & GPU) phenomenon, the future of graphics card technology, storage and management of high volumes of data, how to optimise your office environment, what do I need for stereoscopic production. Better still, hear in person from customers and of the real production challenges faced in the games, design visualisation and film/TV markets.

Yesterday I went there, I found the event really interesting and also the building (Ravensbourne) was amazing!

In the middle of powerful computers, wonderful Wacom Cintiq …a software made me curious:

Substances (further info http://www.allegorithmic.com/)

Alexis Khouri showed me how it works, taking a photo of the floor from his iPad, in a few steps he made a new shaders for Maya, completed of color map, bump, reflection… fully customizable!

I’m going to try this software and as soon as I try it I’ll post the test on my blog.

I found interesting also the engine rendering V-Ray for Maya, some features like using the proxy for huge polygons and the faster preview  in viewport.

At the end of the meeting, they gave us some prizes, and I was lucky!!! I won 12 months subscription for Digital Tutors, I’m learning so it’s perfect! Although I would have preferred one of SpaceExplorer 🙂
